Quorn products have become incredibly popular recently, as more and more people have switched to plant-based diets. A huge range of Quorn products is available, and they can be cooked in so many ways. But can you microwave Quorn? Yes!

Depending on which type of Quorn you’re microwaving, you should remove it from its packaging and microwave it for 3-5 minutes, ensuring it has sufficient moisture, so it doesn’t dry out.

How to Microwave Quorn

As the go-to meat-free brand on the market, Quorn comes in many different forms! Whether it’s mince, sausages, burgers, or chicken-type products, Quorn can be safely microwaved by following the guidelines on the packaging.

You can also microwave ready meals and snack items like sausage rolls and pasties, and again, heating instructions are listed on the back of the pack.

However, to give you a broad idea of how to microwave Quorn, below are the steps you need to take to microwave meatless pieces:

  1. Place the Pieces in a Microwave-Safe Bowl
Remove the Quorn pieces from their packaging and place them in a microwave-safe bowl.
  2. Add Water
Pour a couple of tablespoons of cold water on top of the Quorn pieces.
  3. Cover and Pierce
Add cling film or microwave-safe wrap to the top of the bowl and cover tightly, piercing the film with a fork to allow the steam to escape.
  4. Heat
Place the bowl in the microwave and heat on high for 4-5 minutes. Halfway through the heating time, stir the pieces once before returning to the microwave.
  5. Stand
Remove the bowl and allow the Quorn pieces to stand at room temperature for two minutes.
  6. Serve and Enjoy
It’s now time to add sauce and any other accompaniments to your Quorn pieces before serving them up!

How to Microwave Quorn Successfully

With many options when it comes to Quorn and cooking it in the microwave, we’ve got 3 vital tips you NEED to read first:

  • Always Read the Packaging – Because Quorn is varied and comes in so many forms, you need to read the packaging carefully before placing it in the microwave. Some products require slightly shorter or longer heating times than others, and some may not be suitable for the microwave.
  • Microwave From Frozen – Some Quorn products (like mince and the pieces introduced above) can be microwaved from frozen. Again, you should check the cooking instructions on the packaging just to be sure, but this can save you considerable time in the kitchen.
  • Refrigerate Leftovers – You can save your Quorn leftovers and place them in the fridge. Bear in mind that all Quorn products should be used within 48 hours of heating. If you want to keep Quorn for any longer than this, you can wrap it well and store it in the freezer for several months.

Why You Should Microwave Quorn

Quorn products are much-loved by vegetarians worldwide and are incredibly versatile. Here’s why microwaving Quorn is a smart move:

Healthy

Microwaving Quorn meat pieces and mince, for instance, is healthier than frying them in oil, which is another popular cooking method. You don’t need to add fat to the product to get it to cook.

Versatile

It’s good to know that most Quorn products (including many ready-meals) are microwave-safe and carry microwaving instructions on the packaging. This makes your life a lot easier!

Why You Shouldn’t Microwave Quorn

Despite the benefits mentioned above, microwaving Quorn isn’t for everyone, as we explain below:

Rubbery Texture

Some Quorn products can dry out when microwaved and go ‘rubbery’. If you’re planning to microwave any Quorn product, you need to make sure it’s suitably moist while it’s in the microwave.

Not Feasible for All Quorn Products

Popular Quorn options like sausages and burgers are much tastier when prepared on the stovetop or grill. While microwaving them is easy, you may be slightly disappointed with the result.
